Blog 6

At first, I did not like Diigo. I thought that it was difficult to navigate and post, and it took me a while to even get the motivation to figure it out. Thankfully, there was a youtube video posted on how to use Diigo on Canvas, so I was finally able to understand it. I mean, why is the post button for our shared website under ‘My Library’? It makes no sense! However, now that I have finally gotten the hang of it after a week of usage, I actually thoroughly enjoy it. It’s a brilliant tool for sharing articles, and I love the additional feature that allows you to highlight websites and add comments to share your thoughts about it. It’s an amazing way for teachers to share different resources and stay up-to-date on news.

With blogging, I had the same unsure first impression, but once I got used to it, I enjoyed it. I think that blogging is super fun and I enjoy sharing my experiences, but I do not think that I will stay with it after this class. Blogging is super limited as to who can view it, and you have to have a major social media following in order for people to actually know about it, let alone take time to read it. But going from knowing virtually nothing about blogging to running my own blog for this class has been so much fun to learn about! I didn’t even know how to start a blog in the first place, and I’m so glad that I found out how to use Blogger for future reference.

I think a Web 2.0 tool that I will use in my future classroom is making an actual website. My current philosophy professor has one, and it is very easy to navigate and find assignments compared to Canvas. With his site, everything is laid out clearly, so you always know what is due. I know that Wix is a website creator that is popular right now, and experimenting with it has been easy and super fun! They have a variety of designs for you to choose from as well as different tools to make your website aesthetically pleasing.

  1. I thought that Diigo was incredibly difficult to understand at first too, however I found the same youtube video and it did make the world of a difference. It feels like nonsense with the way that they organize the sub-menus, but as an aggregate it seems to be really well made once you get past the learning curve.
