I find my distance learning experience less than desirable. I’ve hated online classes since I’ve had to take practice math and reading courses over the summer in first grade, so going completely online this semester is terrible for me. The one thing that I have trouble with the most is staying on top of my assignments and the personal connection factor to my teachers/professors. I have trouble not being reminded of upcoming assignments; we are expected to just know what's coming up with this online learning. I am also a very social person who seeks out extra help when needed, but this online learning has made it difficult to do so. When I am a teacher, to improve the experience of distance learners, I will make sure that I am more lenient when students turn in assignments late and make sure that I clearly explain upcoming assignments so there is no miscommunication.
Open educational resources (OERs) are sources that are open for teachers to use in educational settings. It allows teachers to use, edit, and redistribute different educational resources without any cost as long as they do not make money off of it. The Open Source Library is a website created by the Washington State Legislature that contains free courses for teachers to implement in the classroom. Looking through the website, there are a lot of cool lesson plans that I would enjoy using in my classroom.
Honestly, I do not like PowerPoint and will never use it unless I am forced to. It’s so much more complicated than Google Slides, and I don’t even use the functions that PowerPoint has available that differ from Google Slides. Powerpoint is definitely made for the professionals. One thing that I don't like is how, when I tried to paste a transparent image, it didn’t do it right! It still came out as a block and didn’t look like how I wanted it to look. The image of the assignment is below. If you know how to fix this, please comment! For some reason when I tried to use audio on the slides my computer kept crashing. It was so frustrating because then I had to do the audio all over again! I would rather do it through zoom. I’ll definitely understand PowerPoint the more I use it, so next time I’ll continue to step outside my comfort zone and try new things.
